Reclassification of Wood Stork from Endangered to Threatened, DPS Designation

Effective July 30, 2014 – the US breeding population of the wood stork was reclassified from endangered to threatened and was designated as a Distinct Population Segment (DPS) in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The reclassification and designation does not change current regulations concerning the species, since it still remains a listed and protected species under the Endangered Species Act.
